Dear Editor,
The most important issue facing Ulster County is Economic Development. Ulster County must continue to emphasize Economic Development. Since taking office in January, the new County Executive, Mike Hein sent a very clear message that Economic Development and stimulating the Ulster County economy are vital to our economic health and well-being. He’s right.
Ulster County made a commitment to work with our city, towns and villages in a collaborative approach to growing the economy. Saugerties has benefited from county resources such as Ulster County Development Corporation (UCDC) and the Planning Department that worked to assist us with a large economic development project. I’ve been involved with the project to develop a light industrial, high technology research and manufacturing park on the Winston Farm. I’m pleased that the county augmented our limited local resources. It’s gratifying that town, county and state officials along with the owners of the property and regular citizens are working together to move this project forward.
Another area where Saugerties benefited from County involvement is the water-sewer project for Kings Highway. Ulster County provided a million dollars as part of our Shovel Ready initiative to help finance the project.
I’ve been running for office and campaigning with Marcy Goulart, Alverta Jones and Nicole Tucker. We had several discussions about economic development and what Ulster County can do to improve our efforts. We all agree that Ulster County must continue to emphasize economic development. We understand that most of our job growth will be in the innovative driven and technology sectors such as The Solar Energy Consortium (TSEC) and the Winston Farm project. We will work with the legislature, the executive and others involved in Economic Development to keep job growth as a high priority. There is more information regarding our Economic Development work on our web site www.d4dems.com.
Sincerely,
Gary Bischoff
Ulster County Legislator
