SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT
In previous letters to the editor it was implied that I somehow have ties to groups such as Acorn and the Mohegan Tribe. That is simply not true. Please allow me to tell you who I am. My name is Nicole Tucker and I am a candidate for Ulster County Legislature in District 4. I am proud to be endorsed by the Democratic Party, the Independence Party, the Working Families Party, the Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy and the Hudson Valley Area Labor Federation. But even more importantly, Saugerties is my home town and I am proud to be a member of this community. I have no ties or connections to outside groups such as Acorn. I grew up in Saugerties and I currently teach US history and government at Saugerties High School. My ties are with my community. . .my family, neighbors, colleagues, students and friends. I received my masters in social studies education from SUNY New Paltz and through my studies and experience I have come to have a deep understanding of government. I truly believe that I will be an effective legislator because I will work diligently to bring fresh new ideas to the legislature on issues such as economic development, education, senior citizens, housing, veteran affairs, etc. And I promise to do my best to find real solutions to help alleviate the burden of taxes, especially during these difficult economic times. Simply voting down legislation will NOT help to reduce taxes; new ideas and economic development will. I love this community, I understand how government works and if elected, I will work hard every day to effectively represent our communities' interests in county government.
